FlyCast gives smartphone owners free access to over 1500 channels of music, weather, talk, and video, delivered wherever and whenever they choose. FlyCast aggregates entertainment content from a variety of existing sources, processes it, and delivers the media to iPhone, Blackberry, and Android based call phones.
The company competes with Pandora and Last.FM. FlyCast claims that these competitors are “broadcasters” of content where FlyCast is just aggregating and pushing content “through the pipe”. The company claims to avoid paying royalty fees because they do not own or store the content. Besides some of the potential legal risk, I am an avid iPhone Pandora user, so it would take a lot to get me to change services. The product is free so they will have to achieve a ton of downloads in order to become a large venture business.
I’m looking forward to giving the product a try. I’d also love to get your thoughts on FlyCast – the product is currently available in the AppStore.
