TheResumator – Making the Process of Applicant Tracking Easier

TheResumator, founded by Don Charlton, aims to make the process of collecting resumes and tracking a standard hiring process much, much easier.

Don has a great looking site – his strength is clearly on the design and branding side – and this simple idea has been equally simply implemented into a clean, compelling application.  Anyone can go to TheResumator site today and grab a small button to upload for free to your company’s website.  Then the ease of tracking begins.

The company’s business model is great for quick distribution – the freemium to subscription model.  Basically free use for the minimal user, then pricing packages for heavier users.  The initial target market is for small and medium sized businesses (SMBs), and Don already has 10 paying customers and over 6,000 resumes uploaded.

Again, the question that most of these AlphLab startups have to answer:  how big are these end markets?  To me, this feels like a good lifestyle or medium-sized business, but perhaps not a huge market.  To get to a compelling, large enterprise, Don should focus on building out other products that serve his end customer – human resource departments who use applicant tracking systems.  Compelling first product – good luck, Don!

Very interesting product. I would also like to see it in reverse – allow the applicant to post it on his/her website or blog and then create a “match.com” like effect.
