Matt is right that there is a pretty decent stable of small as well as more-established tech companies in the region. Vivisimo has had its share of coverage among the established Pittsburgh media, but other deserving companies perhaps have not.

Enterprise search is a big deal because it will bring to companies and their employees what already exists on the web: single-search-box access to all or most of their electronic information and knowledge, while respecting security, of course.

As companies modernize along these lines, we will see a big leap in the productivity of information use and, thus, new ideas, goods, and services delivered more efficiently.
